Why Scottsdale laundry rooms need a booster fan

The cause is usually plan layout, not the dryer. Center-plan single-story stucco homes put the laundry far from any wall. The duct then runs through soffit for a long distance. Two-story north Valley homes and townhomes push it vertically through the roof. Every elbow and every foot of that run subtracts static pressure. A dryer blower was never built for it.

Fine desert dust makes the math worse. Lint here does not stay loose and fluffy. It binds with blown dust into a hard gray mat. That mat clings at the low point of sagging attic flex. Add a roof jack flapper packed with sparrow or finch nesting, and the run is effectively half its diameter.

A booster fan is not a fix for a dirty duct. We clean and correct the run first. Foil and vinyl transition duct behind the dryer gets replaced. Crushed sections in shallow closets get rigid pipe. Screened or caged vent caps come off. Only then does the fan sizing make sense.

Most installs sit in the attic or near the termination. A pressure switch or current sensor starts the fan with the dryer. Expect to clean the run and the fan housing on the same schedule, closer to six to nine months with pets or heavy wash volume.
